This qualification provides a trade outcome in carpentry, equipping students with the skills and knowledge to work across both residential and commercial construction settings.

This is a trade qualification for carpenters in residential and commercial workplaces. It includes setting out, manufacturing, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing products made using timber and non-timber materials.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction
Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
meets this requirement.
This course is delivered through a blended learning model, combining face-to-face classroom sessions with hands-on practical training in a workshop setting.
- Classroom-based learning takes place at Melbourne Education Institute, Level 1, 310 King Street, Melbourne VIC 3000.
- Practical training is delivered at our fully equipped workshop located at 271–273 Macaulay Road, North Melbourne VIC 3051.
Thirty-four (34) units including twenty (27) core units and seven (7) elective units are required for the award of the CPC30220 Certificate III in
Carpentry.
The 34 units that must be completed include:
- 27 core units.
- 7 elective units comprising of:
- A minimum of five units must be selected from Group A
- The remaining can be selected from Group A or Group B
- A maximum of two units can be selected from any group or current training package, as long as it contributes to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome and maintains the AQF level of this qualification.
Units have been selected in accordance with the packaging rules and are relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and qualification level.

Graduates of this course may find employment opportunities in carpentry roles within both residential and commercial construction environments. These roles can include working on new builds, renovations, or maintenance projects across a variety of settings.
Upon successful completion of the qualification, students may also choose to further their education by enrolling in advanced building and construction qualifications. These can lead to roles with greater responsibility, such as site supervisor, builder, or construction project manager.
Students may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer (CT) based on their existing qualifications, skills, knowledge, and experience. The granting of course credit may impact tuition fees and/or the duration of the course.

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry. If student cannot complete all the units of competency as specified in this qualification, a Statement of Attainment will be provided to students to indicate the units they have successfully completed.
A graduate of the Certificate III in Carpentry reflects the role of a qualified tradesperson who applies a broad range of skills and knowledge in carpentry, with responsibility for completing tasks to industry standards in residential and commercial construction projects.
This qualification aligns with the competencies required by the construction industry, making graduates job-ready for roles such as carpenter, framework carpenter, or formwork carpenter, and often forms the foundation for apprenticeships, licensing, or further study in building and construction.

The qualification is delivered over 104 weeks comprising of:
- Eight (8) terms of 10 weeks each (80 weeks total)
- Holiday breaks amounting to 24 weeks (as specified in the timetable).
Classes are normally scheduled for 2.5 days per week. Students will be required to undertake additional independent study/ homework for approximately 5 hours per week.
- Total course hours: Face to face classes –960 hours.
- Total course Independent study and assessment outside of class time – 640 hours. Total course hours: 960 + 640 = 1600 hours.
